  • 2 large heirloom or beefsteak tomatoes
  • 4 slices thick-cut sourdough or whole-grain bread
  • ¼ cup full-fat cream cheese softened
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives minced
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • flaky sea salt
  • freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter for toasting

Preparation Steps

  • Heat a flat skillet over medium heat and add unsalted butter.
  • Toast the bread slices in the pan until golden brown.
  • In a small bowl, mix cream cheese and Greek yogurt until smooth. Stir in dill, chives, and garlic powder.
  • Wash the tomatoes and cut into thick slabs.
  • Season tomato slices with flaky sea salt and cracked black pepper.
  • Spread a thick layer of the cream spread on one side of each slice of toast.
  • Lay two or three tomato slabs on the prepared bread, overlapping slightly.
  • Place the remaining bread slices on top and press gently.
  • Cut the sandwiches in half on a diagonal and serve immediately.

Notes

This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh with warm bread and cool tomato slices for optimal flavor and texture.
