Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • baking sheet
  • Oven

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet dry active yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Topping Ingredients

  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then stir in the dry active yeast. Allow the mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes or until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  • Add the olive oil, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface or in the bowl for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles and shape it into a loaf. Place the shaped dough onto a greased baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, grated parmesan, dried oregano, and dried basil. Evenly sprinkle this mixture over the top of the loaf to infuse it with flavor during baking.
  • Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Make sure the water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast. Kneading the dough well helps develop gluten for a better texture. Cover the dough during rising to prevent it from drying out. For a crispier crust, you can brush the loaf lightly with olive oil before baking. Store leftover bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
