Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon aluminum free baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk can increase to 2 cups if batter seems dry
  • ½ cup salted butter (1 stick)

Add-Ins

  • 2 cups small diced ham
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 450F degrees. Spray a glass or ceramic 9×9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Mix together the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a medium bowl.
  • Pour in the buttermilk and stir until a sticky batter forms. Adjust with more buttermilk if necessary.
  • Gently stir in the ham and cheddar cheese until combined well.
  • Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or in the baking dish, then pour it into the prepared baking dish.
  • Pour the biscuit dough into the baking dish on top of the melted butter.
  • Cut the dough into 9 squares.
  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes, rotating the dish once during baking.
  • If biscuits brown too quickly, cover with foil during the rest of the baking time.
  • Check for doneness with a toothpick; if it comes out clean, serve the biscuits.

Notes

Oven times may vary. Aim for golden brown biscuits that spring back when touched.
