Bread and Toppings

  • 8 slices Ciabatta bread Cut into 1-1.5 cm thick slices
  • 3-4 ripe tomatoes e.g. San Marzano or vine tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic Peeled
  • 3-4 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 12 fresh basil leaves Washed and dried
  • Salt To taste
  • Black pepper Freshly ground to taste

Preparation

  • Decide whether to toast the Ciabatta slices in a non-stick pan without oil or in the oven on the grill rack preheated to 200°C.
  • Toast the slices for about 8 minutes in the oven or pan until golden brown on both sides.
  • Peel the garlic, wash the tomatoes, remove the stems, halve them lengthwise, and cut out as many seeds as possible. Dice into 1 cm cubes.
  • Grate the hot bread slices evenly with the garlic and drizzle with olive oil until lightly soaked.
  • Distribute the diced tomatoes on the bread slices, drizzle with a few drops of olive oil, season with salt and ground black pepper, and sprinkle with torn basil leaves.
  • Serve the bruschetta warm or cold.
